Bobcat Mini-Track Loader (Bobcat MT100 & MT120)

This course introduces LERT volunteers to the safe, effective, and responsible use of mini-track loaders in disaster response operations. Using the Bobcat MT100 and MT120 as examples, the course covers appropriate field uses, equipment capabilities, operator safety, daily inspection, basic operating principles, grapple and load management, equipment purchasing considerations, transport, and the importance of developing proficiency while caring for volunteers, homeowners, and the equipment entrusted to the team.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain appropriate and inappropriate uses of a mini-track loader in LERT disaster response work
  • Compare practical differences between the Bobcat MT100 and MT120 and how those differences affect field use and transport
  • Apply basic operator safety practices, including required personal protective equipment and safe work-zone awareness
  • Complete a basic pre-operation inspection and identify maintenance or track conditions that require attention
  • Use safe operating principles for travel, turning, slopes, grapple work, and load management
  • Explain considerations when purchasing, transporting, deploying, and securing mini-track loaders
  • Describe how operator proficiency, equipment care, and ministry stewardship support safer and more effective LERT service
